SAMO II – the changing miracle

SAMO II

The Changing Miracle

SAMO II “next generation“ was the working title for a very ambitious development project by satek gmbh.

The entire knowledge and know-how from more than 20 years of experience should flow into the development of a modular principle for sanitary modules in rail vehicle use. The focus was on the design of a platform which, on the one hand, can be flexibly adapted to specific installation spaces and, at the same time, should serve the various variants of standard and universal use required in rail vehicle construction.

While the standard sanitary cabin tend to be narrower and smaller in shape and are integrated into cramped spaces, the universal sanitary cabin is designed for the disabled with equipment components specially provided for this purpose.

Another important aspect was the suitability for use in different vehicle types and designs. The SAMO II modular system can be used in low-floor and high-floor vehicles as well as in double-decker vehicles. Whether in regional or long-distance traffic, whether in a sleeper car or for special purposes. The SAMO II modular system can be used anywhere!

In 2018, the Samo II modular principe was implemented for the first time in a small project. Within the scope of this assignment, some far-reaching optimization approaches could then be identified and implemented.

The SAMO II modular principle has been used regularly for 3 years and is becoming more and more popular with vehicle manufacturers, since the great potential of the modular concept is also being recognized more and more in rail vehicle construction.

In addition to the variability and flexibility in form and installation, great importance was attached to the long-term use of the sanitary modules. The focus was always on maintenance and ideal accessibility for service work.

The modular system as the basis for the satek sanitary cabins has proved to be a successful concept for satek. The clear lines and the consistently functional design set new standards with SAMO II. Consistently positive feedback from customers and operators confirm this. Equally important is the Feedback from the serviceteams, who have to maintain the vehicles and therefore also the sanitary modules for up to 30 years. These service teams especially refer to the accessibility of all serviceable parts during service work as outstanding.

End customers and thus operator-specific color concepts can be implemented simply and quickly thanks to the flexibility of the samo II system.

This flexibility and lightness of the samo II system in changing colors, decors, floor coverings and walls has a positive effect in all areas of satek. In addition to cost reductions, time savings and capacity building for new developments, and the high quality standard which is typical for satek sanitary modules can still be maintained, developed and continuously improved.

“The higher the quality, the more sustainable and durable our sanitary modules. Nothing is worse for train operations than time-consuming and costly complaints that require constant spare parts purchases, downtime and replacement times on the trains in use. For this reason is the ensuring of an easy maintenance in every time a key focus during the developments from satek.“ says Jürgen Kaiser (Managing Director of satek)

Today's trains are characterized by high quality and innovations down to the last detail. The same goes for the toilet, of course, which everyone has to visit. The operators, like the passengers, expect a modern, user-friendly and functional concept that, above all, does not forget the hygiene aspect.

While the passenger expects the highest standards of comfort and a modern, functional design, the operator attaches great importance to low follow-up costs in the form of operating and living expenses.

All this is offered by the modular system of the SAMO II!

In the meantime around 700 sanitary cabins based on the SAMO II modular system have been sold and in the meantime you may have come across them in real life.
