InnoTrans 2024:
Digitalisation drives
sustainability and efficiency in
mobility
Kerstin Schulz
Director InnoTrans
InnoTrans 2024 is the leading international trade show for transport technology, which will showcase the future of mobility in Berlin from 24 to 27 September 2024. This year, the focus will be on electrification, digitalisation, automation and sustainability. Trade visitors will experience numerous world premieres – from ultra-modern trains and buses to AI applications and sustainable infrastructure solutions. InnoTrans is the meeting place for industry leaders, transport companies, political decision-makers and urban transport experts. As a global platform, it offers a unique opportunity for international cooperation and networking.
One of the highlights of InnoTrans is the presentation of next-generation electric and hydrogen trains on the Outdoor Display, which covers 3,500 running metres of track. The Outdoor Display also includes the Bus Display with a directly connected 500 metre Demonstration Course, which presents buses live in operation. This special exhibition area for buses brings together vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and transport companies.
As digitalisation progresses, public transport systems are becoming increasingly networked and automated. InnoTrans 2024 is addressing this topic with a new exhibition area, the AI Mobility Lab in the Public Transport segment in Hall 7.1a. "The combination of transport technology and AI is increasingly helping to make transport more efficient, sustainable and customer-friendly. At InnoTrans, national and international transport companies and transport associations meet innovative developments in the mobility industry," says Kerstin Schulz, Director of InnoTrans. Transport companies exhibiting at InnoTrans include China Railway, Etihad Rail, Infrabel, Korail, ÖBB, PKP, Deutsche Bahn, RTA Dubai and Saudi Railway.
In the AI Mobility Lab, over 30 exhibitors will be showcasing the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data protection and robotics in the rail industry. One exhibitor is Google Cloud (Hall 7.1a I 230). The company supports organisations in harnessing the potential of data and AI to promote smarter logistics processes and supply chains. In the AI Mobility Lab, Next Generation Robotics (Hall 7.1a I 570) will present a new multimodal modular robot platform for the automatic inspection of railway vehicle undercarriages called ARGO. The CRRC Academy will also be exhibiting (Hall 7.1a I 231). The company will be presenting its Industrial AI Open Platform: a cloud-based collaborative AI technology solution tailored to industrial applications.
Simple & fun
Trade visitors can also find out about smart mobility solutions in the AI Mobility Lab with demonstrations of AI-driven route optimisation, integrated ticketing systems and real-time passenger information platforms. These technologies aim to improve the passenger experience while increasing the efficiency and reliability of public transport networks. Other exhibitors in the AI Mobility Lab include Cisco Systems Inc. (Hall 7.1a I 208), Avaron Technologies Limited (Hall 7.1a I 206), 4AI Systems (Hall 7.1a I 550), OSTIRION SLU (Hall 7.1a I 203), Infodev Electronic Designers International (Hall 7.1a I 210) and Eyyes GmbH (Hall 7.1a I 170).
The exhibition will be accompanied by numerous lectures and panel discussions on topics such as artificial intelligence, public transport and rail transport. For example, the DB Innovation Forum, the Public Transport Forum and the Design Forum will take place as part of the InnoTrans Convention. The DB Innovation Forum on 25 September invites the audience to a discussion entitled “Next Station: Rail Success. Digital, Connected, Automated and Climate Resilient. How are we leading the railway into a prosperous future?”. The Public Transport Forum on the same day has been very well attended in recent years. At InnoTrans 2024, everything will revolve around “Financing - networking - personnel: indispensable for the public transport of the future”. The organiser is ETC Solutions GmbH. The International Design Forum on 25 September will focus on "Designing attractive passenger experiences: innovative interiors for the public transport of today and tomorrow". The International Design Centre Berlin is responsible for the content of the event.
